ARGENTINA
June 30th - July 8th 2019
Eclipse on July 2nd 2019
This is one of the most memorable eclipses I have seen. The weather was perfect and the location in the middle of the Argentinian Andes was breathtaking.
DAY 1
June 30th
After a very long flight. we went to a typical Argentinian steakhouse. We had empanadas, incredible steaks, and of course pancakes with dulce de leche. This dessert has now become a great addition to our regular meals!
DAY 2
July 1st
We took an internal flight followed by a 5-hour car journey to Rodeo. It was a very long trip, in particular for my twin brothers. When we arrived at night, the stars were amazing, but it was so cold. As the town could not cope with the large amount of eclipse chasers flocking the area, there was no electricity for 36 hours.
DAY 3 (ECLIPSE DAY)
July 2nd
Today was a double special day. It was the twins' first birthday and eclipse day. And what an eclipse! Everything was absolutely perfect. The best was to be able to see the moon's shadow approaching, engulfing us, and then disappearing. What is incredible about eclipses is that it is not day, it is not night, it is just magical.
DAY 4
July 3rd
Today, with our minds filled with joy and bliss, we traveled back to Buenos Aires. As it was day time, we enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the car journey from Rodeo to San Juan, where we took a flight to the capital.
DAY 5
July 4th
After the long journey back from Rodeo, we had a lazy day in Buenos Aires, we visited the seventeen-acre botanical garden, which has rare continental plants and many animals. We had dinner in an iconic steakhouse, Don Julio, the food was outstanding.
DAY 6
July 5th
When we left England it was very warm, but in Argentina it was winter and it was very cold. Today we walked around the old city and went to the iconic Tortoni cafe.
DAY 7
July 6th
Today we spent the day in Caminito, a delightful colorful place where we admired tango dancers. This place gave its name to a famous tango composed by Juan de Dios Filiberto.
DAY 8
July 7th
We spent our last day walking around the city, impregnating ourselves with Argentinian joy. We went to iconic monuments such as the Obelisco de Buenos Aires. It was fun because I spent a lot of time looking after my little brothers as my parents were exhausted.
DAY 9
July 8th
After a last pancake with dulce de leche, we left Argentina with a heavy heart.
